Quinta dos Girassóis, a local accommodation and event space open to the public, was born from a search for a more fulfilling life and an unexpected encounter with the Zêzere River region. Yoga and meditation practitioners, the couple who own it—Jorge and Elsa—were enchanted by the place and embarked on a new life after hectic years of transcontinental travel, primarily between Europe, the Americas, and Africa.

Jorge Furquim is an architect who dedicated part of his life to architecture and urban development and now wishes to focus his attention on a deeper personal fulfillment. He is a surfing and nature lover, always grabbing his suitcase and heading off to other worlds, other waves, other landscapes.

Elsa Lechner is a researcher with a PhD in social anthropology, specializing in biographical research among migrant populations. She lived for several years in France and the USA, where she completed part of her training. She enjoys the silence and greenery of the countryside, which inspires her to better express her creativity. She has sung and performed theater since she was a child.

​Together they have a daughter - Beatriz - who enjoys gymnastics, horse riding, dancing and singing, drawing and painting, and has a natural talent for photography and video.

​We speak Portuguese, English, French, Spanish, Italian, and a few words of German.
